About the shop
We’re engineers who got tired of watching small businesses get sold software they don’t need.
LightHouse Digital Systems is a small operation based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We design and build websites by hand, run them on a managed cloud platform we configure and monitor, and put real firewalls between our clients’ offices and the rest of the internet.
01 — How we got here
Started small. Staying small.
We came out of enterprise software — the world of pager rotations, security reviews, and uptime targets measured in “nines.” Then we kept running into friends running clinics, shops, and non-profits whose websites were held together with duct tape and whose “IT guy” had ghosted them.
LightHouse exists to bring the boring, dependable parts of enterprise engineering — redundancy, monitoring, real firewalls, sensible backups — down to the scale of a business with ten employees and a storefront. Without the enterprise sales process.
We’re intentionally a small team. That’s the point. When you email us, the person who replies is the person who will actually be touching your site.
02 — What we believe
Four things we won’t budge on.
i.
You own your stuff.
The domain, the source code, the database, the email accounts. If you ever leave us, you walk out with all of it. Always.
ii.
Boring beats clever.
Sites that load in under a second. Firewalls that get patched on Tuesdays. Off-site backups you’ll hopefully never need.
iii.
No black boxes.
We’ll tell you exactly what hardware sits in your closet, what hostname runs your site, and what every line of your bill pays for.
iv.
A human picks up.
No outsourced help desk. No chatbot triage. When you call (336) 338-8585, you’re talking to someone who can actually fix the thing that’s broken.
03 — If you’ve read this far
We’re probably the kind of people you’d want running your website. The fastest way to find out is to send us a short note about what you’re trying to do. We’ll tell you honestly whether we’re a good fit or not.
